Pilates Teacher Training

Kane School Pilates Comprehensive Certification is a rigorous training program well-known for combining the traditional principles of Pilates with a science–based movement perspective on the body. The program develops advanced teachers with “x-ray vision”-professionals with a strong foundation in anatomy, biomechanics, and common injuries, as well as the refined skills to perceive movement patterns clearly and improve them effectively.

Graduates work in a wide variety of settings across the fitness, wellness, and medical professions. The full training includes Foundation Training (Core Muscle Anatomy), Comprehensive Mat, and Apparatus Comprehensive certifications. Already Pilates certified? We offer a comprehensive Bridge Program for certified teachers seeking a deeper, practical understanding of anatomy and applied movement science to elevate their practice.

How It Works

ANATOMY

This course explores musculoskeletal anatomy and basic kinesiology principles, with a focus on the trunk, hip, shoulder girdle, arm, and neck as they relate to Pilates, yoga, and movement. It provides the foundation for further study as a movement professional and is a prerequisite for the Kane School certification program.

The course is delivered in an embodied format. Students learn to apply course concepts practically, including analysis of Pilates exercises and an introduction to posture assessment. Additional topics include core stability and the anatomical basis of common tension patterns and injuries.
Students wishing to progress into Comprehensive Mat either take this workshop or may test out of this course with a passing grade on the Kane School Anatomy Entrance Exam.

MAT

In this mat certification program, students master traditional Pilates repertory while applying Kane School Core Principles to each exercise. Practical skills are emphasized through palpation techniques, exercise progressions and modifications, and programming strategies for both private sessions and group classes.

APPARATUS PHASE I

Phase I of Kane School apparatus training focuses on mastery of classic choreography on all apparatus: Reformer, Cadillac, Wunda Chair, High Barrel, and Spine Corrector. Students progress from basic to intermediate and advanced exercises, observing and practicing each movement. Throughout each level, students develop broader skillsets, including exercise modifications and progressions, palpation techniques, and the art of cueing clients effectively.

APPARATUS PHASE II

Phase II builds on the choreography mastered in Phase I and emphasizes programming for injuries and specific populations. Each module focuses on a particular body region or special population:
